Colposcopy

Colposcopy

A colposcopy is a procedure that allows a more detailed examination of the cervix using a special microscope called colposcope. During the examination, which is painless, the doctor “paints” the cervix and looks for areas that are responsible for the damaged cells identified on Pap smear. Thereafter, if there are suspicious areas that require further investigation, is  taking samples of cervical tissue, which means that biopsy samples are sent to the patholoanatomic  laboratory where  essentially  diagnosed. According to the diagnosis is formatted the further plan of treatment, or conservative (most cases) or invasive.
